Our commitment to preserving Posidonia meadows
In 2023, the Group joined the Posidonia Alliance to engage in a collective dynamic of promotion, communication and action to preserve Posidonia in the Mediterranean.
Founded in June 2023, the Posidonia Alliance is a unique and pioneering network bringing together the State, local authorities and private players, both economic and associative, around common objectives and principles. All are committed to preserving Posidonia, a fundamental ecosystem of the Mediterranean.
Posidonia meadows essential to the marine ecosystem
This flowering underwater plant plays a similar role in the marine environment to that of forests on land. It captures immense quantities of CO2 while releasing oxygen, and forms a breeding ground for numerous plant and animal species. Posidonia meadows are also essential for protecting beaches against erosion. Over the last fifty years, the overall decline in Posidonia meadows has been estimated at 34%.
Working with our partners to promote eco-responsible yachting
By making a commitment to the Posidonia Alliance, Groupe Beneteau wants to help tackle one of the factors responsible for the decline of the meadows: the sometimes inappropriate behavior of pleasure boaters. Our aim is to help promote more eco-responsible boating by raising awareness and providing information to encourage more respectful behavior on the water: organized mooring zones, ecological anchorages, respect for Protected Marine Areas…
“We would like to invite our dealers, rental companies, boat clubs and all our partners to reinforce their customers’ training in mooring techniques to limit their impact. We also want to help them promote the gestures necessary for eco-responsible and sober yachting.”
Erwan FAOUCHER, R&D and Innovation Director, CSR – Sustainable Development
“Preserving the oceans in the broadest sense is a major pillar of our social commitment. We bring a large number of yachtsmen out on the water: almost 10,000 of our boats are delivered every year. We therefore have a major role to play in promoting behavior on the water that is more respectful of the natural environment. We’re working on the first aspect, which is how we can help Alliance Posidonia get its messages across more effectively, through our social networks, our audience, our websites and then directly to boaters, through the manuals we write for boat owners, where we can accompany them. And then there’s the supplier side, with all the work we’re doing to identify solutions that will limit impacts, on larger boats or with virtual anchors that can help preserve Posidonia. We’re delighted to be part of this dynamic and to be moving forward together in the same direction.
Paul BLANC, Boat Club Development Manager
To give concrete expression to its commitment to the Posidonia Alliance, the Group is also working on the creation of specific content to be communicated by the various brands in the Boat division.
