Lagoon 620 NEO: A second life for an iconic catamaran

In 2024, Groupe Beneteau took a new step forward in terms of sustainable development with its LAGOON brand by presenting the “Lagoon 620 NEO”. An initiative designed to give catamarans approaching the end of their cycle a new lease of life thanks to a complete refit.

With the first Lagoon 620 NEO fully refitted and completed in September 2024, Groupe Beneteau is extending the lifespan of its boats, taking another step towards sustainable boating. “NEO is a joint project between the Monfalcone (Italy) and Bordeaux sites,” enthuses Renata MIAN, head of after-sales quality at the Italian site. Within the design office, our role is to assess the components that can be reused and the techniques we can deploy to give them a new lease of life. While respecting the available space and the structure of the boat, we are responsible for defining the installation of the new equipment, with the support and approval of the Bordeaux design office.“

Customers benefit from a two-year manufacturer’s warranty on their refitted catamaran, a guarantee of quality and reliability.

Quality control at every stage

Three packs are available to customers: “These include: ‘standard’, with a complete check, improvements to the existing installation, interior cooling and the installation of more energy-efficient equipment; ‘options’, including the installation of solar panels and a new engine; and ‘silent’, with the installation of a lithium battery to reduce generator noise and a new, more efficient air conditioning system. “All stages of the renovation are carried out to Group standards, with systematic procedures and quality controls,” stresses Renata MIAN. One of the major challenges was to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. We have chosen to recover most of the components installed on board. We also kept the entire hull, making sure it was safe to sail.” Since the end of 2024, the Group has been working on the refit of a second Lagoon 620 NEO, continuing its drive towards sustainability.

First NEO refit project:
70% of materials were reused,
helping to reduce the Group’s environmental impact.

“This renovation project has strengthened the collaboration between the Monfalcone and Bordeaux teams. Quality control, materials purchasing processes and the definition of options and activities are carried out together in a complementary way.“

The ‘NEO’ in Lagoon 620 NEO suggests an evolution. What are the main innovations in this model?

One of the innovations we offer customers is the ‘silent pack’, a technological innovation that enhances on-board comfort. We can also install solar panels. All the new equipment installed is more efficient in terms of energy consumption. In addition, we are looking to improve the insulation of generators to reduce noise.

Before / After

How does the Group ensure the traceability of the materials used during renovation?

The list of serial numbers of the most important components is given to the end customer: generator, engine, pumps, air conditioning, etc. We are very transparent with the end customer and communicate all the rigorous quality controls carried out in accordance with Group standards. The most important of these is the sea trial, which can last half a day and enables us to test not only the main equipment, but also the boat in its natural state. Our ultimate aim is to extend the life of the boat and give our customer a boat that’s as good as new without the cost!
